Frequently Asked Questions

When is it time to see a neurologist?

You should consider seeing a neurologist when nervous system symptoms become frequent, worsen over time, or interfere with your daily routine. A specialist helps identify why symptoms are happening and rules out underlying issues before they progress.

Do I need a doctor’s referral first?

Referral requirements depend on your insurance provider. Many PPO plans allow self-referrals directly to our practice, while HMO and POS plans generally require an order from your primary care provider. Our scheduling team can verify your plan requirements in advance.

How can I best prepare for my evaluation?

Along with your ID, insurance card, and medication list, we recommend writing down when your symptoms occur and what triggers them. Also, bring in any scans, imaging or test results you may have. You are always welcome to bring a family member or friend to help take notes during your appointment.

Do I need a diagnosis to see a neurologist?

You don’t need a confirmed diagnosis to see a neurologist. If you’re experiencing symptoms such as persistent headaches, numbness, dizziness, or muscle weakness, a neurological evaluation can help identify potential causes.

Can I schedule a second opinion consultation?

Yes. Second opinions are a standard part of neurological care. Our physicians carefully review previous scans and records to confirm your diagnosis and ensure your current care plan is the most effective approach for you.

Do you treat all neurological conditions?

To ensure patients receive the right clinical environment for their needs, Atlanta Neuroscience Institute does not evaluate or treat Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease) or Functional Neurological Disorder (FND). If you have questions about whether our practice is the right fit, our scheduling team will gladly clarify before you book.
