Why Atlanta Neuroscience Institute?

Atlanta Neuroscience Institute (ANI) is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization providing comprehensive care to people living with chronic neurological conditions including Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disorder, Epilepsy, and Alzheimer’s. Founded in 2001 under the name The Multiple Sclerosis Center of Atlanta patients receive the latest treatment, research, education, and support dedicated to advanced care. Extended services are offered that enable patients and caregivers the resources needed to navigate today’s healthcare system which includes support groups, case management, and pharmacy education.

Our board certified neurologists provide comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services for complex neurological conditions , including multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders , epilepsy and Alzheimer's disease. With specialized expertise in these areas, our team delivers personalized care focused on improving quality of life, optimizing function, and supporting patients and families through every stage of their condition.

Neuroimaging, especially but not limited to MRIs, is a cornerstone of comprehensive neurological care. It allows for greater visualization of brain structures, deeper specificity regarding disease origin, and enables the identification of smaller lesions providing faster and more precise diagnosis and a better patient experience. A neurological diagnosis is more than just a medical term. It can affect every aspect of life, including relationships, parenting, employment, mobility, and more. Our in-house Case Managers are here for you, to help you navigate the complex environment that a neuro diagnosis may entail. 

Having a clinical pharmacist on staff dedicated to our areas of expertise for our new and returning patients is an incredible resource. Our Specialty Pharmacy Team offers patients and their caregivers support for their neurological diagnosis as they traverse the maze of insurance and medication access. Our staff is involved in all aspects of the process, including:

Our team serves as a resource to physicians, patients, and caregivers, and makes sure each patient receives the neurological treatment they need.

A diagnosis such as MS or Parkinson’s is life-changing in any number of ways, and we know that the financial burden can be devastating to our patients and their families. Many neurological diagnoses are accompanied by challenges with movement and gait. Here at Atlanta Neuroscience Institute, Dr. Joash Lazarus leads a one-of-a-kind Gait Analysis Clinic where he and his team will monitor and treat your gait.

Our History

Atlanta Neuroscience Institute was founded in 2001 by William H. Stuart, M.D., a leading specialist in MS and neurology. The Center is a comprehensive practice devoted to managing the chronic, lifelong illness of MS and has, in recent years, expanded its services to include Parkinson’s, Epilepsy, Alzheimer’s, and general neurology.
With an intense, 20-year focus on MS as part of a medical career spanning nearly 45 years, Dr. Stuart played a significant role in bringing pivotal MS clinical drug trials to Atlanta in the early 1990s, giving patients access to promising new treatments for this debilitating disease.
Since its inception, the Center has embraced a progressive approach to therapies and applies an aggressive treatment model in its mission to enhance the lives of patients and their families. Through its clinical programs, research initiatives, and quality-of-life care, it has grown into a recognized center of excellence within the field of neurology.

Douglas S. Stuart, M.D.

Chairman of the Board
Dr. Douglas Stuart is a graduate of Princeton University and Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Stuart completed his Medical Internship at Emory University Hospital in 1989. He was a resident in neurology at the University of Chicago from 1989-1992. He returned to Emory University in 1992 for a fellowship in Clinical Neurophysiology. He is board-certified in Neurology and Clinical Neurophysiology. He is a member of the American Academy of Neurology. Dr. Stuart has participated as an investigator in a number of research trials for MS treatments and is currently Medical Director for concussion and memory loss.

Stacey S. Bronner

CEO and Founder, Yearly Angels
Stacey Simone Bronner is the founder and CEO of the nonprofit organization, Yearly Angels. The mission of Yearly Angels is to provide families affected by multiple sclerosis or economic hardship with grants to help with medical and essential household expenses. Stacey is a graduate from the University of South Florida in Finance who also serves as the first lady of The Ark of Salvation and is a board member of a local Christian school. She also runs LifeCoachingForWomen.com and AgentsRealEstate.com and is a caring advocate for Multiple Sclerosis patients and disadvantaged families.

Bruce Alan Cassidy, M.D.

Piedmont Hospital Pulmonologist, Retired
Dr. Bruce Cassidy is a retired pulmonary physician. He has served as President of the Medical Staff as well as Board Chair for Piedmont Hospital, Atlanta, and retired from the practice of medicine in 2009 after serving as Board Chair for Piedmont Healthcare. He is a fellow of The College of Chest Physicians and is board certified in both internal and pulmonary medicine. He lives in Atlanta with his wife Eda who is also a retired physician.

John Decker

Division Partner, Childress Klein Properties
John Decker is a graduate of Auburn University earning a B.A. in 1975. He began his post-graduate career as District Manager and Finance Director for U.S. Congressman, Jim Collins from 1976 until 1982. He worked for the Tramell Crowe Company as Marketing Principal from 1983 through 1988 at which time he helped found Childress Klein Properties as the Division Partner for the Atlanta Industrial Division. Mr. Decker retired from Childress Klein in 2019 and now serves as the Managing Member of Decker Land, LLC. is affiliated with the NAIOP Advisory Council (Past President).John continues serving his community as a member of the Board of Directors for Orchard Ministries, The Study Hall, and Caron Treatment Centers. He is Co-Chair of the Atlanta Real Estate Prayer Breakfast. He joined the Board of Directors of ANI in 2004. His leisure time is spent wrestling with his grandchildren and perfecting his golf game.

James H. Lokey, Jr.

Retired Partner, King & Spalding
Jim Lokey served as a partner in King & Spalding’s Tax Practice Group, where for over 30 years he advised clients on a broad array of tax, business, and strategic matters. He has been an active member of several professional organizations, including the State Bar of Georgia, the Atlanta Bar Association, the American Bar Association’s Section of Taxation, the American Health Lawyers Association, and the Atlanta Tax Forum.

Kim Scouller

CEO and Founder, Only Blue Skies
Kim Scouller has been an attorney for over 25 years, having served as an adjunct professor at the Brandeis School of Law, the University of Louisville, and an in-house attorney for the Transamerica companies in the U.S. Kim also served as the president of World Group Securities, Inc. In 2014, Kim launched Only Blue Skies, a women’s business platform focused on making financial education and the financial profession more accessible to women.

Nan R. Monahan, M.D.

Physician owner, Buckhead Internal Medicine
Nan Monahan has actively practiced internal medicine in Atlanta since 1997. She has worked not only as an employed physician for Emory and Piedmont Atlanta, but also as an independent practice owner, and is sensitive to both institutional and individual hurdles in the current healthcare environment. Dr. Monahan, a member of the Piedmont Atlanta medical staff for 24 years, joined her current practice in 2001. She practices outpatient and inpatient internal medicine at Buckhead Internal Medicine. She has assisted hospital leadership by serving as Chief of Medicine for two terms, sitting on the Credentialling Committee, and providing expertise as a Senior Peer Reviewer for Piedmont Atlanta. Dr. Monahan has volunteered for the Good Samaritan Clinic since 2018 and has participated as an event sponsor this year for the Caron Atlanta Recovery Center. Dr. Monahan received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of the South, and her Doctorate in Medicine from the University of Alabama School of Medicine. She completed her internship and residency in internal medicine at the Emory University School of Medicine.

Dr. Jeffrey English

Medical Director
Jeffrey English graduated from Dartmouth Medical School in 1995. He did his post medical training in Internship, Residency, and Fellowship at the University of Maryland in Baltimore. He was the Chief Resident in Neurology at the University of Maryland in 1999. Dr. English has been interested in recovery from neurological injury since medical school. He was involved in a research project in medical school with peripheral nerve regeneration with nerve grafts. During his residency, he performed two research projects, which were presented at International Meetings. One involved recovery after traumatic brain injury, while the other involved functional MRI in the recovery after Cerebellar Strokes. Dr. English is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology with sub-specialty training in clinical neurophysiology. He is also board certified in Neuroimaging by the United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties. Dr. English is a research medical director at the ANI – Multiple Sclerosis Center of Atlanta. He is a paid speaker and consultant for several pharmaceutical companies. These companies include Teva Neurosciences, Biogen-Idec, EMD-Serono, Novartis, and Allergan. He has also been invited as a national speaker on health care economics and the delivery of care to the multiple sclerosis population.

Leslie Rubin

Business Executive
Leslie Rubin is an accomplished business executive with over 30 years of expertise in large-scale sales and business management. Leslie’s distinguished 20+ year career with AT&T highlights her achievements in various roles where she was consistently recognized as a top performer. Leslie’s technical proficiencies encompass communications, networking, Internet of Things (IoT), 5G technologies, and collaborating with global clients in the manufacturing and transportation sectors, enhancing their understanding and implementation of Industry 4.0 solutions. Leslie earned a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Mount Holyoke College and holds several industry certifications, including Industry Internet of Things (IIoT) and Digital Twins from the University of Michigan, as well as the AT&T 5G Technical Associates Certification. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Leslie is deeply committed to community service. She has mentored the spouses of military personnel through America’s Corporate Partners (ACP) and is dedicated to supporting orphaned children at the Center for Children and Young Adults (CCYAkids.org) in Austell, GA. Leslie is passionate about the mission of the Atlanta Neuroscience Institute to improve the health and hope of patients, as well as their caregivers, impacted by MS, Parkinson’s, Epilepsy, and Alzheimer’s. She looks forward to using her business acumen to further advance their mission and is honored to be on their Board of Directors.

George Bronner

Driven by a passion for unlocking potential and fostering growth, George Bronner thrives at the intersection of strategy, analytics, and leadership. A 19-year-old Junior at Georgia State University, he is pursuing a Business Administration degree with a concentration in analytics. As a Consumer Insights Manager at Century Systems International, George plays a pivotal role in shaping strategic decisions, spearheading the company’s growing email newsletter and podcast, H.E.A.L. Quick News. His expertise extends to education, where he serves as an Instructor at Veritas School of Social Sciences, an institution dedicated to developing skilled and empathetic leaders ready to tackle society’s most pressing challenges. Ordained as a minister since 2014, George has not only preached but has also consulted for ministries such as Word of Faith High School Ministry, The Ark, and Georgia State University Baptist Collegiate Ministries, helping them design scalable structures for sustainable growth. With a relentless focus on development, innovation, and excellence, George is committed to driving long-term success for the organizations he serves.

Mr. Stallings is an accomplished M&A executive with more than 20 years of experience leading and advising complex global transactions across a wide range of industries. He has guided acquisitions, divestitures, spin-offs, IPOs, and joint ventures with enterprise values ranging from $50 million to over $60 billion, bringing deep expertise across the full M&A lifecycle—from due
diligence and integration planning to post-close value realization. Formerly the U.S. National Leader for KPMG’s Finance Strategy practice, he holds a BBA in Accounting and an MBA from the University of Georgia, is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in Georgia and Colorado, and serves on the Board of Directors of the Atlanta Neuroscience Foundation.

Dana Westbrook

Lead Inside Sales Semiens Energy

Dana brings over 15 years of volunteer and fundraising experience to the Atlanta Neuroscience Foundation. She has been active in Junior League, Creative Enterprises and is currently the Chairperson of the Board for Forsyth County Special Olympics. Having a daughter with special needs has driven her passion for building a community of inclusion and awareness for this population. Dana has worked in the Power Industry for over 25 years. During her tenure, she has managed extensive corporate events and trade shows as well as serving as an ambassador for United Way and other non-profit fundraisers.

Robin Hackney

Chair of the Technology Association of Georgia’s Digital Health Society.

Robin Hackney is a seasoned healthcare marketing executive and serial Chief Marketing Officer, currently serving as a Fractional CMO for healthcare technology companies. She discovered her passion for healthcare
during 12 years at IBM and has since led marketing for digital health organizations including Greenway Health, FairWarning, and Artera. Robin holds a BSBA in marketing
and accounting from Washington University and an MBA from Duke University. Known for her hands-on, data-driven leadership, she specializes in brand strategy, demand
generation, and building high-performing marketing teams. Robin also serves as Chair of the Technology Association of Georgia’s Digital Health Society.
