Recognizing Seizures

Common signs and symptoms of seizures include sudden loss of consciousness, convulsions, muscle stiffness, and changes in behavior or awareness. It is essential to understand that not all seizures are the same, and some may manifest differently.

Promoting Safety For Individuals With Epilepsy

ANI works closely with patients, their families, and caregivers to create spaces that are safe at home, school, and work. Our team educates individuals about seizure first aid and response techniques, equipping them with the knowledge to handle seizures effectively.

What To Do If Someone Is Having A Seizure

If you suspect someone is having an epileptic seizure, it is important to remain calm and take appropriate actions to ensure their safety:

  • Always stay calm and remain with the person until the seizure ends.
  • Pay attention to how long the seizure lasts.
  • Clear the area around the person of any sharp or hard objects.
  • You can help the person sit down or protect their head from banging on the floor.
  • If the person has never had a seizure before, if the seizure lasts longer than five minutes, or if they have difficulty breathing or appear to be in pain, call for emergency medical assistance.

Do not attempt to restrain the person or put anything in their mouth during the seizure. These actions can cause injury and are not necessary for their safety.

Advocating for Epilepsy Awareness
